Online Poker Legalization Ballot Rejected
in Massachusetts
Not so long ago there had been filled a ballot question in Massachusetts, which would legalize internet poker in the state. The initiative was also promoted on the federal level, the legalization being introduced by Congressman Barney Frank and Senator Robert Mendez supported by the PPA, Poker Players Alliance and also by some students and professors at the University of Harvard.
The ballot about legalizing internet video poker and the winning to be taxed has to be approved by the state Attorney General and after that 66,000 signatures are needed in order to be included. House Speaker Robert DeLeo, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Senate President Therese Murray in the hope of succeeding are all supporting in different degrees some forms of gambling, including internet poker. This is very important for poker bonus codes.
At the end of August Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley rejected the bid of the Poker Players Alliance about including on Massachusetts ballots in 2010 an online poker initiative. According to Martha Coakley’s official website the reason of the rejection was that the online poker petition was not made in a proper form. Despite the fact, that Massachusetts is not being amongst the states with laws banning gambling activity, Coakley’s official website claims that any form of online gambling is illegal. The internet gambling legalization cause is not only not being approved by Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley, but as it came out, it is totally opposed by her.
The PPA together with lobby groups spent over 5 million dollars on the cause over the past four years. Providing further concerns to the PPA, Martha Coakley announced that she will running to fill Senator Ted Kennedy’s senate seat.
